Being smart is not a thing, if you’re being smart, you’re probably being a jerk, trust me when say.

I know.

I was the smartest asshole (sometimes) you could find for the first decades of my life.

Fortunately, I have a lot friends who by their own hands and through time pulled my head out of my own ass so I could smell how bad a smart person smells. Wow.

If you think you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re just the asshole in the room. Nothing more.

No one wants to work with anyone who thinks they are better than you for any justification, whether it be your intellect, your looks, your wealth, or your renown. If you think you’re better than anyone or that others should think the way you do, you are literally what people think of when they think of the worst.

Nothing is more controlling than a person who thinks that their shit don’t stink because they think the world is literally at their service to acquiesce the beast when it is riled up with contempt over the ineptitude of the ignorant to their own perspective. It is literally creating mind games just to make yourself upset and in control at the same time. Fucking nuts is what it is and I still catch myself doing it when I realize I’m pushing a perspective onto someone who frankly doesn’t scope the perspectives of others as relevant into their lives.

The reality is that all of us are smart, and yes I’m sure there’s some real fucking idiots out there but a huge ass majority of thinking calls itself the minority in thought that everyone else is stupid. As a person who justified themselves and therefore their sense of assurance with the puppeting of facts I knew, all it demonstrates to others is how you try to be right in life when you’re not feeling in control, at best, or self-assured. When we try to be smart, we’re really showing our carrot to others and saying this is how you get me to do what you want me to do because I will do everything in the name of looking smart even if I have to do stupid shit to prove it. It frankly shows a belief in oneself about oneself which creates an idea we then propagate actions, thoughts, and intentions around whenever it doesn’t feel like our experience of the world is one where we are smart or assured in the context we’re working with.

Being smart is how we make others look stupid, it is how we scope out action required on our part to do better, it is how we claim we were in the right in an argument when having an argument in general probably isn’t right because it demonstrated you just wanted right. Arguments only happen because humans have staked a claim of territory in the mind about an idea. Arguments are part of the fight-or-flight response to defend that territory. If anything breaches the shores of the mind that are your ego’s paradise in thinking about yourself, you will suddenly be engaged in a fight to preserve that concept and in order to win, we must outsmart our opponents.

However, being smart does not make you wise. It is not a leading indicator of being wise and if you are smart, you probably don’t have an ounce of wisdom to spare.
